LOVE, HONOR AND AIRPLANES

Los Angeles International Airport, 29 June, 2008. Our friends, John and Mike were married, for reals, in a joyful, stylish, family and friends-rich weekend. Bravo, California! Here's hoping other states will follow your lead in allowing same-sex unions. Here's hoping our wedding will also be joy filled.

Matt and I had a whirlwind weekend traveling from NYC to LA in two days. We came face to face with the weakening economy and the deep suffering of the airlines . They're hurting, folks, limping home with wounded paws. We were squarely among the casualties; there were missed flights and baggage and general mayhem abound. Still, through it all, Matt shone brightly, looking always for the bright side, the lesson in it all and reminding me for the millionth time exactly why I'm marrying him.

Here we are, after a long day of overbooked flights and let downs at the In and Out Burger nestled yards away from the international arrivals' runway. We sat and watched the big birds land and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life.
